What can you tell me about the Knights of Columbus?
We are Knights. Men committed to acting on our faith and helping the world. Men whose strong dedication to serving the Church is rotted in our Order’s humble beginnings. When Father Michael J. McGivney invited a few parishioners to gather in the basement of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, his hope was to unite men in their faith and provide for Catholic families in times of need. Guided by four cord principles – charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism – other Catholic men soon followed suit and helped lay the foundation that has allowed the Order to flourish.
Having embarked on a mission to spread God’s message of faith and love, we stand united with the Church. In countless ways, our belief strengthens us to speak out for religious and moral values. As well, the Knights of Columbus actively encourages and promotes religious vocations by providing financial support to those who pursue them. Realizing that by conscientiously supporting local parishes and encouraging young people to consider priesthood and religious life, we strengthen our entire faith.
Knights are also unified with the Catholic Church in our mutual commitment to defend the sanctity of life. In our endeavor to support all life issues, every year we participate in the annual “March for Life” in Washington, D.C., as well as host educational forums. By leading this charge, Knights of Columbus members, globally, have impacted countless lives.
As Knights, our faith is our foundation. Dedicated to the Catholic Church’s growth and her good works, the Knights of Columbus has created several opportunities for Catholic families to be active and faithful through family prayer, Eucharistic celebrations, and rosary programs. We also encourage lay persons to participate in the Church as parish board members, lectors, and ushers. By working hand-in-hand with others in service to God, our faith-communities, and our communities in general, prosper.
The Knights of Columbus in an active volunteer organization that raises awareness for needy causes and generates much needed funds to support a variety of charitable activities, including support of local parishes, renovation of churches, and building of Catholic schools and seminaries. Our members have volunteered millions of hours and raised over a billion dollars – all with the intent to benefit humanity.
Today, the Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic service organization in the world. But, we are not complacent. In fact, we are tireless in our search for the next generation of Knights. Men of character and conviction who are driven by their faith and conscience to selflessly serve their families, Church, and communities.
As a Knight, you can make an impact through enduring faith and unfaltering fellowship. Knowing that one man can make a difference because one Man already has.
